Gérald R. Checco
Director, Metropolitan Sewer District of Cincinnati
Gérald Checco is the executive director of the Metropolitan Sewer District. He comes to MSD from Public Services, where he served as Director from March 2014 to August 2015. Prior to moving to Public Services, he worked for the Cincinnati Park Board for nearly 23 years in superintendent and engineering positions. Born in Bangui in the Central African Republic to a French/Tunisian family, Gérald spent his youth between France and the Lesser Antilles, a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea. He has bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and education, along with a master’s degree in civil/ environmental engineering from Paris, France. He also earned a master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1985.
After college, Gérald spent time in the French military (artillery) as a first lieutenant. He married artist Jan Brown Checco in 1981 and three years later they moved to Cincinnati. They have two daughters and three grandsons. After a five-year stint as a project manager for a small design firm in Cincinnati, Gérald was hired by the Cincinnati Park Board in 1991.
Gérald and Jan live in Clifton in a solar-powered house.
